Where Our Innovation Journey Started

Hello! My name is Joanne, Wonderchums CoFounder.

I spent 12 years teaching design and architecture at universities around the world and eventually co-founded an innovation lab at UTS.   Here we explored ways to solve tricky problems creatively and collaboratively.

The video tour below describes this journey.

Imagining inclusive play futures...

We partnered with the Cerebral Palsy Alliance in NSW and student* teams developed new projects that encouraged inclusive play for kids with and without disabilities. [*This is an awesome video of Dylan when he was a student!]

A think tank that you cycle to...

We found a warehouse and at 8am every Thursday morning we hosted 90 minutes of innovation workshopping for people to come together and imagine new ways to re-design our city.

Designing the future of work...

We partnered with the GPT retail development group and explored the ways that urban spaces could be reconceived in a mobile, transitional work and consumption future.

This work led to SOUP,

a Strategic Open Urbanism Platform for building new ventures to solve tricky urban issues in our cities.

And a flatpack affordable housing startup called Big World Homes.

Here we used everything we knew about urban living and innovation and worked with architect Alex Symes' to design pop-up affordable housing communities.

And then here to Wonderchums...

When my sister Alison and I became parents, it dawned on me that the place for real impact was childhood.   Wonderchums is a collaborative learning platform empowered by an international community of kids and their families.
